GRACE organized an Awareness Seminar on "Access & Quality for All Children in Baltistan" at GRACE Public School Skardu on May 2nd, 2013. Mr. Abid Ali Assistant Commissioner district Skardu and Mr. Nisar Abbas President Press Club Skardu were the Chief Guests at the event.
A large number of people representing different folk of life including teachers, social workers, community people, students and media persons and women folks participated the seminar. Mr. Khadim Hussain, Chief Executive GRACE Association, Pakistan welcomed the participants, highlighted the needs and importance of inclusive education in primary schools of Baltistan. He also shared the objectives of GRACE Inclusive Education Program in Baltistan with the participants and said that this program will not only raise awareness on importance and needs of inclusive education especially in rural communities but also will promote by forming community-school networks in different valleys and by building professional capacity of primary school teachers and school leaders. He further said that the program will ultimately enhance community participation in schooling which will result in increased enrollment, retention and improved learning outcomes of students especially for girls and children with disabilities.
Students from 5 other schools also participated in the awareness program and delivered speeches on importance and needs of inclusive education especially for girls and children with disabilities. They also presented skirts and talk shows to raise awareness of general public on rights of people with disabilities and importance of their education. A special skirt entitled "Khiyodchan" also presented by Tibet Baltistan Art Council Skardu to highlight educational issues of children with disabilities and girls. Participants highly appreciated the skirt.
Addressing the seminar Mr. Nisar Abbas President Press Club Skardu appreciated GRACE Association Pakistan's efforts for quality education for all children. He further said that GRACE Public School is serving as the central school to promote meaningful education in Baltistan. Mr. Abid Ali Assistant Commissioner Skardu congratulated on organizing such a successful and much needed event on inclusive education in Skardu. He further said that behavior plays a vital role in human development. Therefore the society people, government officials and schools community need to behave friendly with girls and children with disabilities to move towards an inclusive society. He assured his full cooperation for GRACE Association endeavors to promote inclusive education in Baltistan.
